Located approximately 150 Kilometers South of Santiago. The main city of the area is its capital San Fernando, along with Santa Cruz which stands out for it´s warm and naturally dry weather. Though with abundant water that comes from the Tingiririca River. Colchagua is a narrow agricultural valley that starts at the foot of the Andes mountain and extends West until the Pacific Ocean.
Wine-making production
In an area of 2.248.658 Acres you can find numerous micro-climates, types of soil and hills ideal for growing grapevine for wine, with an ascending number of viticulture businesses though not exaggerated. Apt for producing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Carmenere and Malbec.
The name of the Colchagua Valley is a Chilean appellation of origin for wines from the geographic region which adjust to the requirements established by agricultural decree N° 464 from December 14th 1994, which fixes the viticulture region of the country and sets norms for its use as Apellation of Origin.
The Viticulture area Colchagua Valley is set within the subregion of the Rapel Valley and also taking into account the administrative provinces of Colchagua and Cardenal Caro, in which there is 12 viticulture areas with 14 administrative colonies such as:
